Content Management Systems

The first wave of web sites were statically designed using tools such as FrontPage and DreamWeaver and could only be maintained by talented designers who were used to the many stages of working on a website.  As a consequence sites were only updated infrequently if at all and they failed to re-attract visitors or create any community interest.

Modern websites are usually designed using a CMS (Content Management System) and although the initial setup needs to be done in conjunction with a good designer the maintenance, updating and creation of new content is left to the user through a simple web control system.  By making it simple to add news and new items it means that is is possible to keep the website upto date and fresh thus encouraging visitors to revisit your site on a regular basis.

We use Plone for most of our CMS requirements.  Plone is a well established, internationally supported CMS and due to it's open source nature it does not come with the 'lock in' that most commercial, closed source CMSs have.
